Inaugural National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Today marks the 1st National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in conjuction with Orange Shirt Day.

I've had discussions and overheard people asking why this day is being commemorated nationally and now recognized as a statutory holiday in Canada.

My response to thatto that...it's about time!

Today is a day to honour the lives of Indigenous children who died in Residential Schools while also honoring the survivors of the atrocities committed.

As George Santayana said,"Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it." - I am a firm believer that questions lead to discussions. Discussions lead to awareness. Awareness leads to change.

I stand in solidarity with indigenous folks. I truly hope that those in my community take the time to learn even one thing today which can lead to tangible changes because apathy leads to nothing.

How do you plan to commemorate this inauguaral day?
