Celebrating the Holidays Safely with Young Children
I have some exciting news to share!
I’m going to be a guest on Cityline ! I’ll be discussing important safety tips on how to safely celebrate the holidays and keeping young children safe while doing so. You can tune in on Thursday December 16, 2021 at 10:00 am MST /12:00 pm EST/ 9:00 am PST on CityTV! Link to segment is here!
This isn’t my first time on the show as a guest, you can watch my first appearance here . However it was my FIRST in-studio experience! Everyone was so kind and guided me through the whole process that it was easy to quickly feel comfortable (although truth be told I was super nervous ha!)
In keeping with the spirit of the segment! I’m going to share some simple reminders when it comes to safely celebrating the holidays with young children around!
If you plan to use a real tree. Always ensure the tree stand is filled with water to ensure the tree does not dry out and pose an increased fire hazard. If the tree is artificial ensure it’s made from fire-retardant material and that the stand is flat on the ground
Keep decorations out of reach of children such as a pre-lit garland, LED flameless candles (both are battery operated by Lithium Coin Batteries).
Closely supervise your child if they are helping you decorate, especially when handling lighting, ornaments, and breakable objects.
Keep mistletoe, and holly berries out of reach of children as each is toxic when ingested.
Ensure that when buying gifts that your children’s toys are age-appropriate and the batteries cannot be easily removed. Batteries shaped like coins (Lithium Coin Batteries), or button batteries, which are the smaller ones typically utilized in watches and hearing aids, pose a choking risk to young children.
